G.O. Ms. No. 86: Upper Age Limit Raised by 10 Years for Direct Recruitment

In a major relief to thousands of unemployed youth and job aspirants across the state, the Telangana Government has officially issued G.O. Ms. No. 86, dated May 18, 2026. This new Government Order relaxes the upper age limit for direct recruitment by 10 years, effective immediately for a period of one year. With this decision, the maximum age limit for general category candidates to apply for government jobs has been raised from 34 years to 44 years.

The government’s decision comes after a flurry of representations from unemployed youth, student unions, and political leaders who highlighted the lack of direct recruitment drives over recent years, which caused many eligible candidates to age out. Issued by Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao, the relaxation is tailored specifically for the ensuing direct recruitments in various categories of posts to be notified by the state’s recruiting agencies. However, it is important to note that this 10-year extension excludes uniformed services (such as Police, Excise, Fire, and Forest departments) where specific physical fitness standards and distinct age brackets apply.
