Pay Commission is set up by the Government of India and seven pay commissions have been set up on a regular basis
- The first pay commission was set up in January 1946 and it submitted its report in May, 1947
- The second pay commission was set up in August 1957 and it gave its report after two years
- The third pay commission was set up in April 1970 and gave its report in March 1973
- The fourth pay commission has been set up on dated March 1987
- The fifth pay commission was set up April 1994
- The sixth pay commission was set up in October 2006
- The seventh pay commission was set up in Feb 2014 and gave its report in November 2015.
When 8th Pay Commission will be implemented?
There is no official announcement yet, the 8th Pay Commission will be expected to constitute in 2024, and the recommendation of the 8th CPC is expected to implement from 01.01.2026
Constitution of 8th Central Pay Commission
The Central Government has informed that no proposal is under consideration to set up the 8th Pay Commission for the revision of government employees’ salaries.

While the Centre has stated that there is no proposal under consideration to constitute the 8th Pay Commission for government employees, sources told that the pay commission may be set up two years later with the intent to implement its recommendations from 2026.
The government sources, while speaking to the news channel, said it was premature to ask the Finance Ministry at this point in time whether the 8th Pay Commission would be constituted.
“Pay panels are set up two years prior to the rollout of recommendations. Hence, it’s premature to ask about it in 2022. The government will decide on the 8th pay panel at an appropriate time,” the sources were quoted as saying.
8th Pay Commission Fitment factor
The fitment recommended by the VI CPC and there should be a single fitment factor that should be uniformly applied to all employees
Fitment factor is a figure used by Pay Commission with which the basic pay is multiplied in order to fix basic pay in revised pay structure.
